Personal Tax Preparation Support

Tax preparation is a secondary service offered by appointment. We help clients organize common income and deduction documents, review the filing information together, and explain the next steps in plain language.

Prepare for a focused tax appointment

Use the pre-appointment checklist to gather identification, income records, dependent information, prior-year returns, and records supporting credits or deductions that may apply. Do not send tax forms, Social Security numbers, banking details, or identification through the public appointment form.

Tax preparation is separate from notary service. Availability, scope, fees, secure document delivery, preparer credentials, and filing authorization should all be confirmed directly before sensitive records are exchanged.

Confirm scope and credentials before sharing records

Ask whether the preparer accepts your filing year, return type, state filing, self-employment or business activity, investment activity, credits, notices, amendments, and deadline. Confirm the preparer’s identity and authorization, the expected fee, e-file process, secure delivery method, timeline, and post-filing support before transmitting documents.

Tax preparation and notarization are separate services with different professional duties. A notary commission does not itself authorize tax advice, and a tax appointment does not turn the public notary form into a secure document portal.

Organize records for an accurate conversation

Bring identification, taxpayer information, income statements, dependent records, prior returns, agency notices, estimated-tax payments, and records supporting deductions or credits that may apply. Self-employed clients should organize income, expenses, mileage, equipment, and estimated payments rather than relying on memory at the appointment.

Review the completed return before authorizing filing and retain the final return and supporting records. Eligibility and filing positions depend on verified facts and current tax rules; a general checklist cannot decide them.

Tell the preparer about agency letters, amended returns, identity-theft concerns, missing forms, multiple states, digital assets, foreign accounts, rental activity, or a business before the appointment. Those facts may change the required expertise, records, price, and time. If the matter falls outside the confirmed scope, obtain an appropriately credentialed specialist rather than forcing a rushed filing.

Keep copies of the engagement information, final signed return, e-file authorization, acceptance confirmation, payment record, and the source documents used to prepare the filing. Ask how corrections, notices, and post-filing questions are handled before the appointment closes.

Common documents

The documents below are common examples. We notarize signatures—not documents—and cannot decide whether a document is legally sufficient.

  • W-2 and 1099 income records
  • Dependent information
  • Prior-year return
  • Education and retirement forms
  • Eligible expense records
